Membership Eligibility

  • Eligible specialties for active membership:
    • Plastic Surgery
    • ENT/Facial Plastic Surgery
    • Neurosurgery
  • Categories
    • Active
    • Candidate
    • Resident
    • Medical Student

Active Membership

  • Members have to be a member of one of the major societies of their respective specialty in good standing
  • Board certification required by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or equivalent for international applicants
  • MSS course/lab or ASPS EdNet online course attendance required before joining, or graduation from a residency program where migraine surgery is performed (surgical case log has to be submitted)
  • Letter of support from current member needed to join
  • Surgery minimums for joining are at least five cases in three of the four major trigger points of frontal, occipital, temporal and septal
  • Voting member

  • Same as active membership
  • Board eligible instead of board certified
  • Non-voting member

Resident/Fellow Membership

  • Residents in ACGME accredited Plastic Surgery, ENT or Neurosurgery to join
  • Fellow in plastic surgery, ENT or neurosurgery advance training, which has graduated from ACGME accredited program
  • Letter of support from the training program director
  • Non-voting member

Medical Student Interest Group

  • Medical student in any MD or DO program
  • Letter of support from faculty mentor
  • Non-voting member

Affiliate Membership

  • A scientist, researcher or medical doctor who is involved in the practice or science of migraine surgery and possesses the knowledge and expertise which benefits the mission of MSS
  • Non-voting member
  • May serve on committees if interested

Life Members

  • Retired or less than 50% of clinical practice
  • Non-voting member
  • Needs to be an active member prior to becoming a life member

Membership Responsibilities

  • Payment of yearly membership dues, due at the fall board meeting
    • Active and Candidate Members: $150.00/year
    • Resident and Fellow Members: $25.00/year
    • Life Members: Dues are waived – verification of dues required on an annual basis
    • Affiliate Members: $50.00/year
    • Medical Student Interest Group: No fee
  • Attendance of their respective board maintenance of certification requirement
  • Research is encouraged but not required to maintain membership

Ratification of New Members

  • A greater than 75% vote is necessary for a candidate to be approved by the Board of Directors
  • Votes will be held on an annual basis on fall board meeting
