William G. Austen, Jr., MD

William G. Austen, Jr., MD, is the Chief of the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Chief of the Division of Burn Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a Professor of Surgery at the Harvard Medical School.He holds the Burke/Marriott Chair in Burn Surgery and the MGH trustee chair of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Austen received his undergraduate degree at Princeton followed by his medical degree at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Austen trained in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the Harvard Medical School followed by a Fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Austen is a member of numerous societies including the Society of University Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Migraine Surgery Society.

Dr. Austen initiated the MGH migraine surgery program in 2007. He has seen and treated hundreds of chronic refractory migraine patients and is actively involved in migraine surgery research.
